“Visibility” is on the hearts, minds, posts and feeds of just about everyone these days.  But it’s not a passing fad; it’s an invaluable strategy for any business.

It’s true!

How will people know they need YOU if they have no idea that YOU or your business actually exist?

And while social media ads can be effective, they can also be expensive.  With this, it’s important to have or build a well-rounded strategy for sharing GOOD, VALUABLE RICH content that lends to increasing and improving the “Know, Like, and Trust” factor that everyone always talks about.

What better way to do that, than by leveraging the power and reach of existing resources like The Huffington Post?

No, seriously… It’s absolutely possible.  I’ve done it, and here’s how:

> FIRST – Select the article you want to pitch to the Editor.

Pick an article from a stockpile of content that you already have, or create something to submit.  The ideal piece would be something that has never been published anywhere else (including on your my own blog and social media posts).  This is important because having the same exact content showing in multiple places can negatively impact the contents SEO.

>SECOND – Know exactly what section or topic your submission would be specific to.

When you reach out to an Editor for any publication, you want to be able to paint a picture of exactly where your work would fit.  Being able to articulate that an article would be a good fit in the “Business Sustainability” section – and why, would not only make a good impression, but also shows that you either read the publication or at the very least do your homework.

>THIRD – Check your work and craft your pitch.

After you have the article clean and polished, you want to take the time to draft a pitch that is just as clear and concise.  Make sure that you introduce yourself, clearly state what you/your business does, include why these things make you a good candidate to contribute, include the Article title and the complete article for review, specify the section that your work is relevant to, AND include links to social profiles, pages, and other places where your work has been published.

>FOURTH – Send your hard work off to Arianna Huffington/The Huff Post.

When I pitched my article, I sent an email directly to arianna@huffingtonpost.com including everything noted above.  And within a few days I received a reply email that copied a specific Editor thanking me for my submission and welcoming me on as a contributor.  Then, in a separate communication, I received details on the publishing policy’s and my contributor login credentials.

So there you have it!  These are the 4 steps I took to become a Huff Post Contributor.

And after really fleshing out my Organic Visibility Strategy, I’ve recently reached out and submitted to a number of other publications/platforms. (I’ll keep you posted on the outcome)

What are some other places you think your content would be a good fit?  Maybe I can help.  😀
